Just fyi, Shortcake is called "shortcake' because short is an old English word for crisp and because it traditionally contains shortening.. So it's a crisp cake made with shortening.
We have rhubarb in our garden, so I've been buying strawberries to combine with them and make sweet early summer desserts. 🍓 The shortcake looked great!
From what I remember, a lot of people actually didn't like Alton Brown's macerated strawberry recipe *_because_* of the red wine; I remember reading a lot of reviews that said it overpowered the strawberries, and they suggested using a smaller amount of a sweeter wine. Though I do think that black pepper + strawberries is an underrated combo.
It's both the eggs and flour that have Salmonella, but flour can also have E. Coli. so pasteurize your eggs and heat treat the flour if you want edible cookie dough.
Those fresh local strawberries are so good, and in fact, brother went strawberry picking with his coworkers some weeks back and the ones he brought back were the best ones I've had in quite a while! If only the ones at the store could be as good, but I know the logistics involved make it a pain.
mmhmmm strawberry shortcake it's been awhile when the shortcake soaks up the strawberry juice its so good. no cool whip or whipped cream which i think is an essential part of strawberry shortcake. i've never had alcoholic strawberry shortcake tho it sounds good
Nope! Modern eggs from grocery stores (in The States, dunno where else) are washed and sanitized. Chances of salmonella are slim. It's the raw flour that'll get ya! I'm told you can make safe to eat cookie dough by baking the flour, then using that sanitized flour in the cookie dough recipe. I can't speak from experience, as the only raw cookie dough I consume is the stuff in ice cream.
Of all the years I’ve baked something I don’t think I ever looked up one of his recipes… Maybe I’ll do it one day, but I just have some tried intrude recipes that I don’t really want to do anyone else’s.
Funny thing is, had I only seen Good Eats, I'd wonder what your problem was with him. When I saw him on Cutthroat Kitchen and Iron Chef America, it all made sense.
Outside of Good Eats he's kind of an arrogant jerk. Although he was a good guest on Hot Ones. But literally everything else, even Mythbusters, he came off as arrogant.
Love how this is Stephen's vlog channel, yet he doesn't appear until ¾ into the video. 😂

“I’m gonna rest a long time”
Poorly aged statement 😂
?
I’m curious and afraid
Because he decided to go to Colosseum, he didn't get as much rest as he'd hoped.
@@circlenowsquared Oh 😅 not nearly as heavy as I’d thought! 😁
I've only heard pancakes referred to as hotcakes in the idiom "sell like hotcakes."
0:57 "Once we have all the dry" - Aha, so that's what we're scraping off of George Washington's wooden teeth!
We are forever scarred by that statement 😂
Yayayay, I love MalBakes!
And we didn't cook/bake and eat Brandon!

That's weird, why did the thumbnail change? I saw it earlier today and it had Brandon on it then.

I read that as "Strawberries are one of my favorite foods, especially locally pickled!" and my brain internally barfed.

Did not know about the flour, fascinating! Good thing i dont like raw cookie dough 😅
How about chunky biscuits with millionaire cheesecake filling inside them now that sounds Scrumptious and delicious. 😋
I thought it was the eggs that were the reason why you should not eat raw cookie dough. Though we always did when I was younger.

I always thought the only reason to cook the flour was so that it wouldn’t taste like glue @@fyrenwater

Vlog raid!
You know the ketchup in the Spaghetti Sause that the Italians hate? Alton Brown was the one that helped started that trend on Good Eats.
I don't even have any Italian in me and I gagged at the idea of ketchup in spaghetti sauce. What's wrong with Mr. Brown that made him think of that?
Instead of course crumbs I like to think of it as "mix until it resembles jarred Parmesan cheese" (the fake stuff)

Eh, strawberries. They're my least favorite fruit that I'm not allergic to. More for you. :) I'm more of a cherry and peach fan.
Depends on what you do with it
You and Dan share the same taste, then!
Never really liked Alton Brown, something about him, I dunno. Me and my mom watch a lot of cooking competitions, but I just don't know.

@@Kairamek Agreed.
@@cheetosugar695 I'm not sure, he came off as very annoying. Everything with him was like that, especially in Iron chef America.
